πŸš† “Late Trains, Leaky Hotels & Latte Runs: My Wild St. Louis Weekend”

πŸš† “Late Trains, Leaky Hotels & Latte Runs: My Wild St. Louis Weekend”

Sometimes trips go smoothly… and sometimes, they turn into a comedy of errors. My weekend getaway to St. Louis with my sister had everything — rain, delays, bad hotels, good food, and a few surprises in between.

The Late Train Ride 🎟️

We took the Amtrak and were supposed to get to St. Louis by 12:15 p.m., but of course, life had other plans. The train was an hour late, and by the time we arrived, it was raining. Not a light drizzle either — real “stay in the hotel” weather. So that’s exactly what we did.

The Hotel Horror Story 😬

Now, the hotel… let’s just say it was not giving luxury. The bathroom was rough — floors that hadn’t been scrubbed in ages, strange stains, and one chair with black marks that told a whole story of its own.
Breakfast? Canceled. The restaurant next door had been shut down by the health department! That was enough for us to decide: we’re sleeping on top of the covers tonight. No sheets, no surprises.

Applebee’s to the Rescue 🍹

To lift our spirits, we went to Applebee’s. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, and my sister had chicken parmesan. No dessert this time, but the margarita special made everything better. A huge glass, perfectly mixed — it was the highlight of the night. We had one each, and that was all we needed.

Retail Therapy & Hobby Lobby Finds πŸ›️

After dinner, we stopped by Hobby Lobby. I found a cute purse and a new chain that I absolutely loved. Little wins count too, right?

Target Trouble & a Starbucks Fix ☕

The next morning, we went to Target for a Starbucks run. But when we got there — surprise! — a small boycott was going on. Some people were walking out, others were standing around protesting, but we just wanted our drinks. We grabbed our lattes and minded our business like seasoned shoppers on a mission. That caffeine hit was all we needed to start the day.

The Black Beauty Expo πŸ’…πŸ½

Sunday was the big event — the beauty expo. My friend was getting an award and performing, so I was excited to see him. He was super busy, so I didn’t get a chance to talk, but it was still great watching him shine. I think he didn’t believe I’d actually come, but hey, surprise — I showed up!

The event itself was amazing. We had jerk chicken, macaroni and cheese, and greens — everything was seasoned and delicious. The energy in the room was inspiring, full of creativity and community.

Casino Chaos 🎰

After the expo, we decided to test our luck at the Horseshoe Casino. Spoiler: there was no luck. I lost everything I played. For dinner, I got a chicken wrap that was bland, but my sister enjoyed her chili. At least one of us left happy.

The Journey Home 🚌

Just when we thought the drama was over, Amtrak said, “Not so fast.” On the way back, we stopped somewhere in Illinois only to find the station closed. The driver dropped us off and left! We were standing outside waiting until another driver finally came to get us. It was cold, confusing, and unforgettable.

Final Thoughts ❤️

Even with all the chaos — the delays, the hotel mess, the boycott, and the bad chicken wrap — I still had a great time. Trips like this remind you that adventures aren’t always perfect, but they make the best stories later.

Next time I go to St. Louis, it’s gonna be for a food tour — no trains, no hotel drama, just me, my appetite, and a city full of flavor.
